Privacy Policy
Last updated: [DATE — fill in when published]
The short version: we collect the minimum needed to run the app — your email, a display name, an optional photo, and who invited you. We don't sell your data, we don't show ads, and we don't share your information with gambling companies or anyone else for marketing purposes. Everything below explains exactly what we hold, why, and how to get it deleted.

1. Who we are

Pokermates is operated from Cyprus. This policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your personal data under the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and applicable Cyprus law.

2. What we collect

DataWhy we collect it
Email addressTo create and secure your account, sign you in via magic link, and send account-related emails
Display nameShown to other players at your tables
Profile photo (optional)Shown to other players if you choose to add one
Referral relationshipsTo track and reward genuine invitations
Table/session data (chip counts, hands played)To run the game itself; chip counts reset per table and have no real-world value
Basic technical data (IP address, device/browser type)Collected automatically by our infrastructure providers for security and abuse prevention

We do not collect payment card details directly — if you subscribe to membership, payment is handled by our payment processor, who has their own privacy practices.

3. Legal basis for processing

We process your data on the following bases: contract (we need your email and profile info to provide the service you've signed up for), consent (for optional things like your profile photo), and legitimate interest (for basic security and abuse prevention).

4. Who we share data with

We use a small number of infrastructure providers to run Pokermates. We don't sell data to anyone, and we don't share it for advertising purposes — we don't run ads at all.

Each of these providers may process data outside your country, including in the United States, under their own data protection safeguards (such as Standard Contractual Clauses where applicable).

5. How long we keep your data

We keep your account data for as long as your account is active. Table/game history is tied to your account and kept for as long as you keep your account, unless you request deletion. If you delete your account, we remove your personal data within a reasonable period, except where we're required to retain limited records for legal or security purposes.

6. Your rights

Under GDPR, you have the right to:

You can exercise most of these rights directly from Settings → Privacy & data in the app. For anything not covered there, contact us using the details below.

7. Cookies and tracking

We use only the minimum technical storage needed to keep you signed in and remember your preferences. We don't use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies, and we don't run ads.

8. Children's privacy

Pokermates is not intended for anyone under 18. We don't knowingly collect data from minors. If we become aware that we've collected data from someone under 18, we'll delete it.

9. Security

We use industry-standard measures to protect your data, including encrypted connections and access controls that restrict who and what can read or modify your information. No system is perfectly secure, and we can't guarantee absolute security, but we take reasonable, active steps to protect your data and respond quickly to any issue we find.

10. Changes to this policy

If we make material changes to this policy, we'll make a reasonable effort to notify active users before the changes take effect.

11. Contact & complaints

For any privacy questions or to exercise your rights, contact us at privacy@pokermates.com [— replace with your real contact address before publishing]. If you believe we haven't handled your data properly, you also have the right to lodge a complaint with the Office of the Commissioner for Personal Data Protection in Cyprus, or your own country's data protection authority.
